Korean news outlet reaffirms that Nexon and Blizzard are working on a StarCraft shooter

Put another log on the campfire of hope, StarCraft fans, because we once again are hearing word about the possibility that a shooter based on the sci-fi RTS is being made. And this time the call is coming from inside of the house, so to speak.

Insider reporting from The Korea Economic Daily says that Nexon has assembled a development team dedicated to a StarCraft game within the company’s shooter division, which includes modder of the game Choi Jun-ho named as its project lead and reportedly has completed “preliminary preparations” according to Google translate. Readers no doubt recall that Nexon teaming up with Blizzard for games based on the IP was already confirmed last year.

That said, the report also cautions that the project may never get off of the ground, noting how Nexon had also partnered with Square Enix on a Final Fantasy spinoff game back in 2015 that never got past the planning stages.

When approached for comment by IGN, Blizzard had nothing to say. Still, it would seem like this is the firmest bedrock that a StarCraft shooter is cooking in the oven. Whether we’ll see it named during this year’s BlizzCon as suggested is another matter, of course.
