If you can’t possibly get enough of zombie apocalypses and survival sandboxes made by small developers, then you’re in luck because we’ve found another one of ’em for you. Say hello to VEIN, a new early access title being developed by Ramjet Studios that doesn’t appear to rock the boat but seems to have been built on solid bedrock as far as we can judge from Steam user reviews.

“In the near future, the apocalypse has occurred: hostile zombies roam the Earth, most people have died, and society has collapsed. You are a survivor. Gather supplies to survive, explore abandoned buildings, combat bandits, defend your home, and rebuild society with friends.”

VEIN sees players come together in a rural open world map where they must scavenge, build, craft, and fortify against the zombies that are roaming the game’s world. Much of the expected survivalbox gameplay loops appear to be present here, though VEIN highlights the ability to interact with practically everything in the game world, its multiple interconnected systems, and world events that maintain their impact.

The game entered early access this past October and has maintained the pretty frequent stream of hotfixes and updates that preceded the build’s release, the most recent of which discusses bugfixing, improvements to foliage, and underwater caves. Early access is slated to run for an estimated five years, which reads like a lot but is also refreshingly honest, particularly since the devs seek to add a larger map, more enemies, and additional improvements.
