Battlefield 6’s Upcoming Improvements to Hit Registration, Audio Detailed in New Community Update

As we get close to the second mid-season update for Battlefield 6 Season 1, Battlefield Studios has published a new community update where it discusses several ongoing subjects about the title, including recent improvements made to the game, as well as planned future content. The mid-season update – dubbed Winter Offensive – is slated for release on December 9, and will bring with it a host of major improvements.

Reflecting on some of the recent improvements made to Battlefield 6, however, the developers noted that quite a few adjustments have already been made to the game. These include changes made to the Challenges system, improvements to the Escalation game mode, and the general success of Javelin Anti-Cheat.

As for the future, Winter Offensive will bring with it improvements to the game’s audio system. This means that the title will better prioritise the audio for combat and vehicles, largely having come about thanks to the full audio pass that the developers had noted as happening. The developers plan to continue working on other issues that could cause sound to get cut off, including memory and performance issues, especially in the larger maps of the game like in the battle royale mode.

As for game modes, Rush and Breakthrough are both getting major updates that will focus on improving the gameplay flow for attackers, as well as ensuring that defenders don’t get an advantage thanks to oversaturation. “Our goal is to make each push feel more readable, fair, and momentum-based without undermining strong defensive play,” explain the developers.

The larger-scale Breakthrough mode is getting updates to its capture volumes and vehicle availability as well. One noted example is Siege of Cairo now getting an additional attacker tank in Sectors 1 and 3, as well as an updated capture area on B. The smaller scale Rush will be getting adjustments made to its M-COM locations on the Manhattan Bridge and Liberation Peak maps to level out the playing field for attackers.

On the core gameplay side of things, the developers have noted that they are building up their infrastructure to bring in improvements to the netcode and hit registrations. The update will bring in improved bullet trajectories, especially in fast-paced combat situations. The idea behind these adjustments is to fix inconsistencies that might occur when, for instance, lots of bullets are fired while transitioning into a zoom.

Soldier visibility has also been a focus for the developers, since combat readability is one of the foundations behind an enjoyable shooter. One of the main improvements in the upcoming update will refine visibility effects at close range, ensuring that soldiers stand out more clearly in dark and low-contrast zones. In the future, the developers want to also bring in improvements to lighting and exposure, especially in the transition from indoor areas to outdoor ones.

More details about the updated are slated to be revealed as we get closer to the release of Winter Offensive. Battlefield 6 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and is currently in the midst of its first season. For more details about the shooter, check out our review.
