2K Sports and developer Visual Concepts have officially announced WWE 2K26, and have revealed what athletes will grace the covers of its various editions. In a series of social media posts, four distinct editions for WWE 2K26 have been announced: the standard edition ($69.99), the Attitude Era Edition ($99.99), the King of Kings Edition ($129.99) and the Monday Night War Edition ($149.99). If it weren’t already obvious, the game will seemingly focus on the events of the Attitude Era, which is considered to be the span of time between 1997 and early 2021.

It is worth noting that the standard edition’s cover athlete hasn’t yet been confirmed. The Attitude Era Edition will feature WWE stars of the time, including “Stone-Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, and Kane, among others. The Monday Night War Edition, on the other hand, will feature a host of WWE wrestlers as well as the major stars of the now-defunct WCW, including “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scot Hall, and Bill Goldberg, among others.

Along with this, there have also been a series of skits with wrestling manager Paul Heyman making pitches to Triple H about how there should be more covers featuring members of the faction he manages, The Vision. This could be a hint about who we can expect on the cover of the standard edition, with wrestlers like Bron Brekker considered to be in strong contention.

However, despite revealing all these editions and their variant covers, 2K Sports has yet to confirm other details about the game. One report, courtesy of Dealabs’ Billbil-kun has indicated that the game is set for release on March 13, 2026. The report also notes that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be launched alongside versions for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S. It is currently unknown if PS4 and Xbox One are also targeted platforms.

The PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are also slated to get physical releases. However, Nintendo’s platform is expected to get it in the form of a code-in-a-box release. Whether this means a download code for the eShop will be provided or if it will instead be a Game-Key Card is also unknown.

Pre-orders for WWE 2K26 are expected to go live on January 30, where the cover star for the game’s standard edition is also expected to be unveiled.

Typically, a look at the cover athletes provides a strong indication of what kind of single-player content a WWE 2K release will feature in terms of its story-centric Showcase mode. We have previously seen the mode tackle stories like the rise of Roman Reigns and his Bloodline faction, and before that we got a ride through the storied career of Lucha Libre legend Rey Mysterio. The prevalence of Attitude Era stars on the modern covers indicates that we might see the upcoming title tackle storylines from between 1997 and 2001, which would essentially be a way for the game to revisit what it already did back with WWE 13.
