The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Sequel May Not Feature a Timer, Says Director

From a new IP with experienced developers at the helm to one of the more acclaimed role-playing games of 2026, The Blood of Dawnwalker has certainly come a long way. It sold one million copies within days of launching and received positive critical reviews. The Steam rating currently sits at “Very Positive”, with 86 percent recommending it after a slightly rough start.

Of course, even fans will have some qualms. Interestingly, they’re centered on something that drew mixed responses when first revealed: The time mechanic. Despite many claiming it’s not a big deal, the most popular mod on day one of launch removed it.

With Rebel Wolves gearing up for a sequel based on recent job listings, Eurogamer asked if the timer would return. Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz’s response? “We didn’t decide it, to be honest.”

“We will play with it. If we have parts of the story, or the whole story, to which it fits, then we will use it. If we have stories where it does not fit, we will not force it. We will play with this system, and we will try to use it to boost the urgency of some events in the game. But I’m not saying that in every game we will have the same scheme or loop – it’s not like this.”

While this might be a relief for those who loathe timers with every fiber of their being, that doesn’t mean the studio is playing it safe. “We are also considering and researching some other crazy ideas which can make the RPG genre different to surprise people in the future.”

Obviously, it’s too early to really speculate on what those could be. For now, Rebel Wolves is also working to improve The Blood of Dawnwalker, addressing bugs and performance concerns. There were plans for free add-ons post-launch, but Tomaszkiewicz has yet to provide a roadmap.
