Someone out there in multiplayer gaming thought to blend the vibe of surfing and the combat of ARPGs, and we are absolutely here for the idea. If you are too, then you’ve got a new game to keep eyes on called Surfpunk, a new in-development co-op title from Double Stallion that promises lots of beachy vibrancy, an extraction gameplay loop, and ARPG chops.
“Set in a post-cataclysmic world where rising seas have turned ancient cities into countless tropical islands known as ‘The Fallen World’, where available resources are guarded by a relentless, otherworldly threat, The Sumi.”
In Surfpunk, up to four players can team up to explore a procedurally generated monster-filled archipelago as surfing pirate raiders, which sounds sick as all hell even on the tin. Players will be challenged with taking down threats, finding loot, and surfing out of the area before a tsunami hits. Players take up four different classes based on the weapon they’re wielding, and gadgets and items can be crafted on the fly to find new routes or escapes.
A release date for Surfpunk is not available currently, but the game is available for wishlisting on Steam and a demo can be played now as well. So, yes, while this is another extraction RPG, at least this one appears to have some fresh things to offer stylistically speaking.
