If you were a big fan of Sunderfolk – that’s the adorable couch co-op turn-based RPG from Dreamhaven-backed studio Secret Door – then today’s double announcement is for you.
First, Sunderfolk itself is getting a 2.0 update on March 10th, with a “tank-style Vanguard hero, two new sets of missions, and highly-requested PC features: mouse and keyboard controls and online multiplayer.” Yep, you read that right.
“While we continue to see lowering the barrier for in-person play and connection as an important part of our ongoing vision as a studio and company, through your invaluable feedback we also realize that many of you want to play Sunderfolk online together in a more traditional way. As a result of your feedback, especially from PC players, our team is spending a considerable amount of time and effort reimplementing Sunderfolk to be fully playable from your PC without the need for a phone controller. With Sunderfolk 2.0 you will be able to control your characters with a mouse and keyboard as well as create and join online games directly from your PC.”
But second, the studio has also announced a spinoff game, also multiplayer. It’s called Shadowstone, and it’s a “1-4 player tactics roguelite based in the world of Sunderfolk” – a “run-based experience where players take command of multiple heroes on a quest to escape monster-ridden ruins and save their corrupted realm from dark magic.” Co-op is a go-op, and we’re expecting this one to hit early access later this year at a $14.99 price point.
