With its revised stance on console-exclusive titles and a strategic ability to launch precisely the right games on PC and Xbox, Sony is experiencing growing success for the titles it supports on platforms other than the PlayStation.

Its most recent earnings report showcases a growing profit for “Other Software”, a category that the company denotes to games it sells outside of the PlayStation Store. With a cumulative $2.37 billion coming in from that single category, it seems that Sony’s decision to maintain a presence on platforms besides its home-grown powerhouse, as well as launching its PS5 exclusives on them after a significant amount of time has passed, is paying off.

Besides extending the shelf life of its PlayStation-exclusive titles, it’s also beneficial to gamers on other platforms who get to experience some of the best titles from the company, while allowing developers to make the most of cross-platform features in multiplayer titles. That’s quite a win-win situation, although it remains to be seen just how many of its first-party titles will be making a debut on the PC and Xbox in the coming years ahead of the PlayStation 6’s inevitable appearance.

For the moment, at least, Sony is making several great moves as far as its gaming division is concerned, a few hiccups in recent years notwithstanding.
