Snap announced that its Specs AR glasses, still set to launch this fall, have a cross-platform AI agent and an optional cellular charging case for on-the-go connectivity.
Snap Opens Preorders For Specs, True AR Glasses Shipping This Fall For $2195
Snap just officially revealed and opened preorders for Specs, fully standalone true AR glasses shipping this fall in the US, UK, and France for $2195.
At a launch event in LA this week, the company revealed Specs Intelligence as a core feature of the $2195 device, which it formally announced and opened preorders for back in June. Specs is still set to be the first fully standalone true AR glasses outside China, and the most advanced on the planet that you can actually buy, beating companies like Meta and Apple to market.

If you’re unfamiliar with the term AI agent, it’s distinct from the idea of an AI chatbot in that agents can take actions, rather than just providing a response. AI coding agents such as OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Code have become a core tool for software engineers, while Meta’s consumer AI agent Muse recently shot up to the top of the iPhone App Store with a focus on managing your email, calendar, bookings, and other online tasks. Specs Intelligence seems to be taking on the same market.
“SPECS Intelligence is designed to anticipate when help would be useful and surface relevant information and actions without waiting for a prompt. Before a meeting, it could highlight decisions to make, questions to ask, and things to remember. For an upcoming trip, it could bring together flight, hotel, and dinner plans while flagging a work deadline that falls during the visit.”
Specs Intelligence will support iPhone, Mac and Specs. While it will eventually allow for a wide range of agentic actions, with Snap giving examples such as booking hotels and buying cinema tickets, the initial preview release will be far more limited. On iPhone, the US-only public preview simply provides “insights” from your Gmail and Google Calendar, while the fuller experience on macOS is “invite-only”.
Snap won’t say what model provider it’s using to power Specs Intelligence, nor is it revealing what its business model will be after the free preview period.
Specs Intelligence
The other major announcement of Snap’s launch event was that it will offer a cellular charging case option, as an upgrade to the included regular charging case, in all three launch countries via partnerships with local carriers. A bundle with the cellular charging case will be priced at $2395, meaning a $200 premium over the regular SKU.
The lack of cellular connectivity was something we harshly criticized in our review of Meta Ray-Ban Display, as depending on a connected smartphone simply isn’t reliable. We suspect cellular will be as essential for mainstream HUD and AR glasses as it is today for smartphones.
In the US, Specs cellular connectivity will be offered via Verizon, starting at $10/month if you use Verizon for your phone or $20/month otherwise, while in the UK it will be via EE and in France via Orange.
These carriers will also offer finance plans for those unwilling to drop the two thousand dollars outright, and let prospective buyers try on the AR glasses to experience them in select stores.
Snap will also be publicly demoing Specs from October 1 at the Westfield Century City mall in Los Angeles, confirming that it will offer this experience through at least the holiday season.
There’s still no concrete date for the Specs AR glasses to ship, despite the event being positioned as a launch. We’ll let you know as soon as Snap announces one.
