Sea of Remnants is Getting a Free-to-Play Alpha Test on PC From February 5th to 12th

Developer Joker Studio, along with publisher NetEase Games, has announced that its upcoming pirate-themed adventure game Sea of Remnants will be getting a free-to-play alpha test. Dubbed the Wanderer Alpha Test, it will be available on PC through Steam, and will be playable from February 5 to February 12. The announcement was made with a new trailer which you can check out below.

While the alpha test might be free-to-play, those interested in checking the game out will still have to register for it To do so, one simply has to follow the official X account of Sea of Remnants and Like, Repost, and Comment on the post embedded below. The alpha selection process will take place between January 8 and January 22, during which 30 players will be randomly selected. Interested players can also get access to the alpha test through the game’s official Discord server, Steam community, and subreddit.

The trailer itself is a lengthy one, clocking in at close to 6 minutes in length. However, it does provide a great look at the game, since all footage has been described as being in-engine. Starting off with some ominous narration, the tone of the trailer quickly switches gears with the player character partaking in various pirate-themed activities like drinking, gambling, and chasing chickens. Alongside all the on-foot gameplay, we also get to see what sailing a ship will feel like in Sea of Remnants, complete with side-activities like time-trial races and shooting galleries to test out a player’s cannons.

Sea of Remnants was first unveiled back in June 2025, and unlike the newest trailer that makes use of modern-styled pop music, the trailer from the announcement tried harder at setting a more pirate-y mood by using folksy music. Players in Sea of Remnants will take on the role of an amnesiac sailor who meets a mysterious girl. The two decide to travel together because, while their goals might be different, the locations they need to reach are apparently the same.

The trailer also showcases the variety of gameplay Sea of Remnants will feature, from platforming challenges to intricate puzzles that will test the player’s wits. It will also feature a base-building mini-game of sorts where the player will have to get resources and other treasures to upgrade buildings.

The final part of the trailer switches gears once again, changing the music to include more rock and metal elements while the visuals focus on the various antagonists the players will have to deal with. These range from evil members of a Navy to massive undersea creatures that can be taken on by making use of your ship’s equipped weaponry.

Making use of a vibrant art style that doesn’t focus too much on realism, Joker Studio has described the overall design concept of Sea of Remnants as being made to evoke the idea of a world being populated by “puppetfolk”. Thanks to the less-than-realistic art direction, the title is also able to feature more expressive characters and other body traits that would be more in line with what you see on a cartoonish puppet.

Sea of Remnants doesn’t have a release date aside from a 2026 window. The title is being developed for PC, PS5, iOS and Android.
