Resident Evil Requiem Runs in 4K/60 FPS With Full Ray Tracing on PS5 Pro (and 120 FPS Without)

Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem has only been looking better and better, especially in the wake of various hands-on previews. And for those who don’t have a powerful PC for ray tracing, director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed that the PS5 Pro would support full ray tracing.

Speaking to PlayStation Blog Japan, he revealed that with full ray tracing enabled, the survival horror will output at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. However, it can be turned off for higher frame rates, which, depending on your monitor, can range from 90 FPS to 120 FPS.

While noting that it “takes a lot of time to optimize,” Nakanishi praised the console’s high frame rate capabilities. “Do you know the difference that much? You may think so, but when you go back to 60 FPS, I still feel that it is not enough. What can I say? The world’s persuasiveness is different due to the difference in the amount of information.”

Path tracing on PC may still be the best option in terms of top-tier visual fidelity, and with Multi Frame Generation, even higher frame rates are likely possible. Nevertheless, seeing Capcom achieve 4K/60 FPS with full ray tracing on much cheaper hardware is still impressive. The real question now is whether PS5 and Xbox Series X will support the same, even at a potential 30 FPS.

Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27th, and you can learn more about it here. Producer Masato Kumazawa recently reaffirmed that it wouldn’t be an open-world title, while Nakanishi likened the dual gameplay style to sushi (and it somehow makes sense).
