Like a mutant morphing before our very eyes, the post-apocalyptic PvPvE MMOFPS Pioner has transformed from a game in closed testing to a game in early access. And ideally that transformation isn’t quite as gross and gnarly as that comparison would suggest. Honestly, we were trying to speak to theme and aesthetics, not suggest that the shooter is a horrid error of the natural order.
“Pioner takes players to a vast, atmospheric, post-apocalyptic island, where remnants of the Soviet era create an incredible alternate reality. The game emphasizes realism over traditional mechanics, offering an open world of over 50 km² filled with hidden dungeons, story quests, and faction missions that influence alliances and rewards. As a social-focused MMO, PIONER combines narrative-driven exploration with intense PvE and PvP gameplay where players shape the world through their actions.”
Developer GFA Games talks up the shooter’s next steps through early access, as it plans to provide a development roadmap of future updates and in-game events, as well as its first story-focused expansion sometime in January 2026. Early access will cost gamers $30 for the standard edition, or they can shell out an extra five dollarbucks for the special edition, which packs in packs in some weapon skins and cash shop currency, though both bundles are currently on sale.
