PlayStation’s Shift Away From Single-Player Games on PC Was Decided Last Year – Rumor

A rather curious rumor made the rounds recently, suggesting that PlayStation will no longer port its single-player PS5 offerings to PC. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier promised there’s “more to come soon” on this, but reliable insider NateTheHate had more to offer.

Corroborating that PC players would see “fewer single-player games” from PlayStation, he added that, “You’ll be seeing fewer single player games arrive on PC.” Of course, this doesn’t mean you won’t see it in the foreseeable future, which mostly depends on “how far along the ports were.” But going forward, “it no longer appears to be a priority for Sony.”

The most recent PS5 exclusive to hit PC is Death Stranding 2: On the Beach from Kojima Productions, which isn’t a first-party developer. Since the studio owns the IP, it may have more flexibility regarding the platforms it can release for. However, Nixxes is involved in the porting work, and PlayStation is publishing.

Perhaps the shift is due to how its ports have underperformed, including Returnal and LEGO Horizon Adventures. Even a highly anticipated release like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fell short of Spider-Man Remastered. Of course, none of this seems to affect the publisher’s live-service plans, as evidenced by Horizon Hunters Gathering coming to PS5 and PC on day one.

As always, time will tell, so stay tuned for more details, but for now, you probably shouldn’t expect Housemarque’s Saros or Marvel’s Wolverine to release for PC anytime soon.

You’ll be seeing fewer single player games arrive on PC.

The decision to shift away from supporting PC was made last year. Naturally, some may still release (pending how far along the ports were) but it no longer appears to be a priority for Sony moving forward.
