Minecraft Dungeons was never an MMORPG, but it was a fast favorite around my house from the moment it launched and with each successive DLC release. My kids loved it on Switch, and when it came to Steam, I got a copy myself to play co-op with them and suddenly understood it as a gen alpha dungeon crawling roguelike that is more about smashing mobs and lols than meticulous strategy – Diablo but more rambunctious than grim. And hey, I kinda loved it. It maintains a permanent home on my hard drive, and my only complaint is that the DLC and season content dried up a few years ago, so what we’ve got is all we’ve got.
Until later this year, apparently, when we’re actually getting a sequel. That’s according to the Microsoft and Mojang press release that confirms that Minecraft Dungeons 2 is indeed en route for 2026.
“A hero’s work is never done! Disorder is brewing, and the world stands before a threat unlike any other. A new danger is growing in power, ready to descend upon the land and unleash mayhem. Return to the world of Minecraft Dungeons in an all‑new action RPG adventure, brimming with high‑stakes encounters, thrilling challenges, and never‑before‑seen locations, as you set out to save a world in crisis. Will you and your allies prevail against the forces of evil and save the day once more?”
Yes we will and please take our monies. Expect it on PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Switch 1 and 2. We’re tucking the trailer down below… see if the music doesn’t suck you in.
