Meccha Chameleon, the viral hide-and-seek game in which players paint themselves the same color as the environment, has sold 15 million copies in just 25 days.

Japanese solo developer lemorion_1224 made the announcement Sunday on Meccha Chameleon‘s Steam page. “We hit 15 million in sales! Thanks a million!” they commented. “Get ready for a new collaboration with a famous Japanese star next week!”

Meccha Chameleon didn’t take long to catch on; it sold two million copies in less than a week after its launch on June 10. Since then, it has powered through to this remarkable new milestone. According to the analysts at Alinea Insight, it’s the best-selling game of 2026 to date by a wide margin, ahead of the likes of Resident Evil Requiem, Forza Horizon 6, and Slay the Spire 2 (all in the region of 7 million copies sold).

Meccha Chameleon has even soared past some of 2025’s bigger hits; for context, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold some 8 million copies, and Switch 2 flagship Mario Kart World stands at 14.7 million copies sold in Nintendo’s most recent sales figures. It’s a similar scale of success to last year’s big friendslop hits on Steam, REPO and Peak.

Meccha Chameleon‘s low price has helped its sales — the game costs $5.99, and debuted with a discount at $4.99 — but that doesn’t mean it’s not raking in the cash for lemorion_1224. The game’s total revenue now stands somewhere between $75 million and $90 million.

Meccha Chameleon, which belies its rudimentary presentation with extremely fun social gameplay, is drawing a huge audience on Steam, as you’d expect. It saw 216,145 players online on Saturday, well inside the Steam top 10. But it’s already past its peak of 340,534 players, achieved in its first two weeks, and is now beginning a gentle decline.

The game reportedly took lemorion_1224 just two months to make, although the developer has been experimenting with the hide-and-seek concept for years. No hiding now.
