It’s been ten days since Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls was released, and the buzz is decidedly more muted than before launch. Much of that is due to issues with the PC version which, despite a recent patch, still has a “Mixed” rating on Steam with only 48 percent of user reviews recommending it.

However, it seems that its sales haven’t been too crazy either. Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott estimates that 485,000 copies were sold on PS5 and PC in the first week, apparently resulting in $33 million in revenue. Unsurprisingly, 74 percent of copies sold were reportedly on PS5, while Steam contributed only 26 percent.

Interestingly, PlayStation may have other Marvel titles to thank for the response, as Elliott reports significant crossover with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2 (though Marvel Rivals also figured into the equation). Dragon Ball FighterZ, ArcSys’s best-selling fighting game to date, apparently had significant overlap, though fans of Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 also reportedly showed up.

Of course, the sentiment is that Tōkon could have reached one million sales if the PC version fared better. As such, the developer is committed to addressing issues and long-term support with new characters (with the first DLC character, Phoenix Cyclops, out in Fall), so we’ll see if it can pick up over time.

Stay tuned for more details and check out our review of the PC version. Aside from the high CPU utilisation and rollback issue, we found it to be a very fun, if initially daunting, fighter.

Marvel Tokon sells 485K copies on PS5 and Steam (@alineaanalytics estimates).

PS5 accounts for 74% of that split, while Steam takes 26%. It’s made $33M in revenue across those platforms. The lower Steam share tracks, with many fighting games skewing to console due to… pic.twitter.com/XynsuBpzA7
