With Lies of P: Complete Edition now having come out on Nintendo Switch 2, director Jiwon Choi has spoken about the studio’s decision to include the full game in the game card for its physical release. In an interview with RPGSite, Choi said that it came down to him being a “proud gamer”, making the decision a “natural choice”.
“We actually decided on a standard physical release with the full game on the cart at the same time we decided to port the game to the Switch 2,” Choi explained. He also went on to discuss his new team – NOUGH Studio – and its slogan.
“Everyone at NOUGH Studio is a proud gamer, which is why our studio slogan is ‘Games by Gamers.’ For us, preparing a physical edition of Lies of P that includes both the base game and Overture on the cartridge was a natural choice. We really want it to feel like a gift to our fans, so we’re putting a lot of care into it.”
Choi also spoke about other aspects of bringing Lies of P and its Overture DLC to the Nintendo Switch 2. When asked whether the team’s experience with optimizing the game for Xbox Series S or Steam Deck helped with the development of the port, he spoke about the amount of research his team had to do to learn the ins and outs of the hardware powering the Nintendo Switch 2.
“No matter what platform you’re working with, bringing a game to a new system requires a lot of research and a very solid understanding of the hardware. The Switch 2 had only recently launched when we were working on the port, so there wasn’t much information available about the hardware yet. Because of that, we did face a number of challenges.
“One area we spent a lot of time experimenting with was the snow in Lies of P: Overture. We wanted to make sure we could fully capture its look and feel on the Switch 2. That said, the Switch 2 offers impressive performance for a handheld system, and the Unreal Engine development environment was set up very well. Nintendo’s platform documentation and guidelines were also very well organized, so we were able to move forward without too much trial and error.”
Lies of P: Complete Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2 was released earlier this month. Celebrating its launch, NEOWIZ and ROUND8 Studio released a trailer showcasing the base game and scenes and locations from Overture. It also gave players an idea of how well the fast-paced soulslike’s visual fidelity would translate to the Switch 2.
The title was originally released back in September 2023, and has since gone on to become one of the more popular soulslikes out there. NEOWIZ confirmed back in March that it had sold more than 4 million copies, and the company called it a meaningful moment for the game’s development team.
In the meantime, full-scale production on a sequel to Lies of P has already begun, and Choi is once more heading up the project as a director.
