IO Interactive’s Project Fantasy is in A “Healthy Place,” Per Its CEO

There are times when a game is announced, only to then give us a wall of silence for a long time after. Project Fantasy, a brand-new IP from IO Interactive, definitely fits that bill, but there’s some good news.

CEO Hakan Abrak has told The Game Business that it’s still very much in development amid rumors about funding being pulled from the project. It’s implied that the project has a new backer and that things are going well for it. “It is in a very healthy place; it’s still financed, and it’s amazing.” Later in the interview, he revealed that the team is “very far” along with it.

Abrak has been cagey about details surrounding the new partner, and his refusal to either confirm or deny that Xbox is involved might just point towards a multiplatform release, something we’ve said on earlier occasions, too. If your memory is a bit fuzzy on the premise, it’s based on the Fighting Fantasy books by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, and is an RPG that’s built to last with years of content baked in. It’s a fantasy title that’s designed to feel fresh but familiar, according to its makers.

For our part, we’re just glad that it’s on track and can’t wait to hear more about its development. In the meantime, you can check out the studio’s next big project, 007 First Light, on May 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (with the Switch 2 release coming later this Summer).
