If there’s one thing that’s often talked about ahead of a new Grand Theft Auto (and even Red Dead Redemption), it’s the size of the world. The attention to detail that Rockstar Games puts in is astronomical, but seeing the play space expand so significantly between each new iteration has been something.

With Grand Theft Auto 6 around the corner and based on what the developer has showcased, it’s certainly looking to be a massive experience. It’s a sentiment shared by former producer John Ricchio, who worked on Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption. “The fact that every single time they do a GTA, it’s ludicrously bigger than before is like something that I think about. Like, I can only imagine the size of GTA 6. Like it must be monstrous. Or if not monstrous, it’s probably way more detailed.”

Besides how “significantly bigger” GTA 5 was compared to 4, Ricchio says, “Even between GTA and RDR, they were continually growing the size of the world.”

“Monstrous” is certainly one way to describe other aspects of Grand Theft Auto 6, including the budget, which reportedly crossed $2 billion according to UK government records. Analyst firm Newzoo also noted the sheer magnitude of its pre-order campaign, which is estimated to have accrued about $260 million in revenue within the first week.

If it maintains that same momentum heading into launch on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, then it could end up selling 37 million at the bare minimum and 51 million near the top end in its first week. For now, we’re waiting to see more Leonida and all the activities that players can partake in.
