Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Ends the Remake Trilogy’s Story; Any DLC Will Focus on “Untold Stories”

Since it’s the finale of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, one would expect Final Fantasy 7 Revelation to wrap up the overarching story. It’s been going on since 2020, and Square Enix isn’t holding nothing back in terms of places to explore (while trying to avoid any open-world “fatigue”).

However, the recent discovery of a Story Expansion Pass on the Epic Games Store database and director Naoki Hamaguchi’s own statements indicate potential DLC to carry things forward. Thankfully, he’s clarified that that’s not quite the case. “The story will be concluded within the main game,” he told Automaton-Media. “We’re serious about concluding the series with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, and we’re proceeding with development with that goal in mind.”

That said, if any DLC happens, then the team will focus on creating “a kind of spin-off focused on a specific character that depicts their untold stories.” “So, in case we do end up considering making a DLC, this is the kind of thing that we’d likely attempt to do.” If you’ll recall, that’s exactly what Episode INTERmission for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is, since it follows Yuffie’s mission in Midgar.

It’s worth noting that Hamaguchi didn’t outright confirm plans for additional content, despite apparent evidence for the same. “I feel that, at this point, both the media and the fan community are expecting a DLC to come. That being said, things haven’t crystallized yet, so we can’t certainly say.”

And while he wheeled out the line about considering an expansion if there’s a demand, it almost seems a given at this point. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be surprising if the team wants to get the game out before focusing its energy on any DLC.
