Fable Delayed to February 2027, “Major New Look” Coming at Xbox Games Showcase

Microsoft has announced that Playground Games’ Fable has been delayed to February 2027, following long-running rumors about the same. Citing other popular games releasing this year, XBOX on Twitter said it’s moving the open-world RPG to next year to “plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players.”

Of course, it’s also to ensure that Fable gets “the dedicated moment it deserves.” Of course, you can expect it to appear at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7th as the development team reveals a “major new look” while highlighting the “broader lineup.”

Believe it or not, rumors of Fable slipping into 2027 began in June 2025 courtesy of Xbox Era’s Nick Baker. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb reignited the discussion when he reported that it had been “internally delayed,” though it was still planned for 2026.

For its part, Playground Games reaffirmed the Fall 2026 window several times, even when it was hiring for more developers to help get the game over the finish line. It’s possible that the project’s current progress meant that it would be comfortable with more time. Since Microsoft allegedly wants to avoid colliding with Grand Theft Auto 6 in November, a delay makes sense.

Either way, XBOX’s other titles, including Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day, are still on track for this year. The former is rumored to launch next month, while the latter could debut in September due to its sponsorship of AAA’s Triplemania 34. We’ll find out on June 7th, so stay tuned for all the coverage.
