The latest update for co-op dungeon crawler Dungeons of Eternity adds a new extraction-style game mode alongside new enemies, loot, and weapons.
Developer Othergate also overhauled the game’s lighting and rendering for better performance.

The new Tomb Extraction mode brings the high-risk/high-reward gameplay of extraction shooters like Ghosts of Tabor to a fantasy combat setting. During Dungeon Raids, the ‘red’ dungeons in the run selection map, you will collect crypt runes. Those runes are used in a new crypt dialing device in the outpost to create a tomb run, determining the crypt layout and loot contained.
Tomb Extraction also introduces five new weapons:
- The Crypt Keeper’s Staff shoots out an orb of light that can be exploded to help light the extremely dark dungeons.
- The Tomb Breaker Hammer can smash sealed tombs open to claim loot and is very useful against armored enemies.
- The Gravelight Bow illuminates crystal lights and explodes on impact.
- The Necromancer Staff will charm an enemy, giving you an extra ally to fight with.
- Skull Daggers can be found throughout the tomb and are all-around weapons for combat.
Finally, the Crypt Guard is a new enemy type that can hear your voice and magic. It will investigate any sounds and alert other enemies to your position.
Quality of Life & Performance Improvements
- Dungeons of Eternity is now Steam Frame verified for standalone play on Valve’s new headset. This comes with finger tracking, the ability to rebind SteamVR input, and a separate graphics setting.
- The game has been overhauled to utilize directional lightmaps (a technique used in Half-Life: Alyx), faster dungeon loads, real-time lighting on standalone Quest, and graphics options for all platforms.
- Experimental OpenXR support for PC VR is available.
- Every player can now carry a torch in dark rooms with the lighting system overhaul.
- Damage numbers and multipliers now pop up for enemies. This can be toggled off for those who don’t care for that feature.
New Equipment Slot, Loot & Weapon Classes
- You now have an equippable ring slot with over thirty rings available to find in your dungeon runs, each with its own special perk.
- There are two new weapon classes: Auric weapons shake coins from undead enemies and Spectral weapons ‘echo’ your damage a moment after you hit an enemy.
Last and arguably most important, there is a playable lute in the outpost with sixteen chords, fully networked so you can play songs (or just horrifically bad sounds in my case) for your friends.
