Control Resonant Offers “More Meaningful Progression and Real Choices,” Says Remedy

When you think of some of the best action RPGs, “choice” is something that arguably separates the creme of the crop from the rest. In that same vein, Remedy is looking to go even further beyond the original Control by incorporating “more meaningful progression and real choices” with Control Resonant.

Speaking to Game Informer, creative director Mikael Kasurinen said that the open-ended world of Manhattan offers various secrets, side stories, branching paths, and more (while assuring none of it is filler). He reaffirmed the game’s action RPG approach and how there would be “more meaningful progression and real choices” to go with “distinctive builds.”

“It’s not a question of just entering a genre that is new to us, but discovering what the Remedy interpretation of it is. Control was a great first stepping stone. Now, we’re ready to leap further.”

Of course, it’s no secret that Resonant connects to the larger Remedyverse – the developer even said that it was their “boldest step yet” in expanding the same. But how it ties in remains to be seen. Could we see other franchises, such as Alan Wake, since both games featured crossovers with the first Control? Maybe even Quantum Break?

It’s anyone’s guess at this point, but that point about “choices” still has me thinking, especially since Remedy said Dylan would have to make some impossible ones to “decide the fate of humanity.” Aside from different endings, perhaps those could tie into the “branching missions.” As always, we’ll have to wait and see.

Control Resonant launches later this year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. While an investor report indicated a launch in Q2 2026, Remedy’s Thomas Puha has since clarified that any release date info is “speculation.”
