When it comes to player skins, Call of Duty has become something of a running joke in the community for its inclusion of a wide-range of cosmetics, many from collaborations with various other franchises. With the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, however, developer Infinity Ward has promised that it is looking forward to ensuring that its cosmetics and collaborations feel authentic to the rest of the game.

In a social media post, Infinity Ward noted that just about every aspect of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be “anchored in the game’s narrative”. This includes just about every decision made by the developers, ranging from gameplay to new features and even skins. Ultimately, the studio has said that it wants to hear from the Call of Duty community about what they would want to see in the game.

“Every aspect of Modern Warfare 4 is anchored in the game’s narrative,” wrote the developer. “Every feature, every decision needs to feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is, and that includes cosmetics and collabs. We’re committed to keeping it grounded and transparent, and we want to hear from you on what you’d like to see in our game.”

It is worth noting that the last few entries in the Call of Duty franchise have gone crazy with some of the skins that have been released, among which have been the alien from animated series American Dad, Roger Smith, and even hip hop artist Nicki Minaj. There have also been inclusions that severely break the shooter franchise’s art style, like the eponymous protagonists of Beavis and Butt-Head.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was announced earlier this week. The shooter will come to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It will also mark the first time that an entry in the franchise will skip the eighth-generation consoles – PS4 and Xbox One – since the release of 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts.

The story of Modern Warfare 4 will revolve around a conflict between North Korea and South Korea, which will inevitably spread chaos across the entire peninsula and will even take players to different parts of the world. Its campaign will have players take on the role of a South Korean soldier caught in the mix, Private Park, and will also feature the iconic Modern Warfare character, Captain Price. Among the locations confirmed for the campaign are Paris, New York, and Mumbai.

Activision has also confirmed that, unlike last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Modern Warfare‘s campaign will be single-player only, and that there will be no co-op options. As for multiplayer, the company has confirmed that it will launch with 12 new core maps and has provided more details about the shooter’s gunplay, as well as a new game mode dubbed Kill Block.

The launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will also seemingly mark the end of support for previous-gen hardware. Activision has confirmed that, once the first season of this year’s entry kicks off, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of free-to-play battle royale mode Call of Duty: Warzone will no longer be playable. The process will be a long one, with it getting delisted from the platforms on June 4th.
