BrokenLore: Ascend Announced for PS5 and PC, Mixes Horror With Climbing

The BrokenLore franchise is one that we’re quite intrigued by after UNFOLLOW, its first instalment, blended some excellent psychological horror gameplay with an insightful and poignant narrative that made us quite sympathetic towards Anne, its protagonist.

And while we’ve been eagerly waiting for FOLLOW, the sequel, to drop on June 1st, Serafini Productions has gone ahead and released a new trailer for Ascend, a standalone instalment that brings two new protagonists to the table.

Of course, an obsession with social media and a need for external validation continue to underpin the narrative. Still, the stakes are much higher for the two ambitious climbers, Ren and Yui, who are at the center of this new story. They might not be as helpless as Anne is, but that doesn’t mean that the dangers they’re about to face down are any less potent, as they attempt to climb Elysium Tower.

We’re quite curious to see the kind of challenges await, especially since this is the highest building in Tokyo (in-game), in their effort to create the “ultimate” video. We’re not as eager to meet the Rokurokubi that resides there, though, since it looks like a nasty piece of work.

BrokenLore: Ascend is coming to PC and PS5, but a release date has yet to be confirmed.
