Cargo Master is a new game mode for Bootstrap Island where you loot and deliver increasingly difficult cargo for rewards and placement on the global leaderboards. The new update is available now for PC VR with PlayStation VR2 due to follow soon.
It is a little odd to think about competition in Bootstrap Island’s usual isolationist atmosphere, but developer MaruVR is switching things up with Cargo Master.

The potential rewards include items with mystical powers that you cannot find in the main game. The challenges escalate as you complete more runs, forcing you to balance the pre-existing survival elements and resource management mechanics to complete the delivery.
From Maru’s press release, here are some of the items you can earn:
- Boots of Jumping – Dramatically increase jumping ability, eliminate fall damage, and allow players to make huge, sliding leaps across the island.
- Infinite Flintlock Pistol – A special pistol that never requires bullets or gunpowder, although it still needs to be cocked after every shot.
- Infinite Bow – A unique bow with an unlimited supply of arrows.
There are 19 tasks currently available in Cargo Master and completing all of them unlocks the final reward: the Golden Seashell. When you complete the mode, your time is recorded on global leaderboards where you can see how you stack up against other players.
Bootstrap Island is available on Steam and PS VR2.
