Warhorse Studios – the company behind the open-world medieval RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – has announced that it has been affected by a “cybersecurity incident.” In a statement on its website, the studio has said that it is working with experts in the field to ensure that its systems are protected. While it didn’t reveal too many details about the incident, it has confirmed that it involved “unauthorized access to company systems as well as company data.”
In a statement, studio CEO Martin Frývaldský called it a “serious incident” for the company, and noted that its first priority is to ensure that its systems have been secured and to figure out the full extent of the incident.
“This is a serious incident for Warhorse Studios and everyone affected. Our immediate priority is to secure our systems, establish the full extent of the breach, and take the necessary steps to protect our employees, partners, and community. We are dedicating the resources needed to address this situation and will communicate further information as soon as we responsibly can.”
In the meantime, the company has said that it will not be conducting any interviews or providing comments for now, and that more information will be revealed as it becomes available. In a statement to its fans, the studio said, “We’re sorry to share that Warhorse Studios has been hit by a cyberattack. We’re working with cybersecurity specialists to secure our systems and understand the full extent of what happened.”
The company is currently working on two distinct projects – a new adventure in the Kingdom Come franchise and a brand-new RPG that takes place in Middle-earth. Both are slated to be open-world games. However, the studio hasn’t yet revealed too many details about either one. The most information so far has been the fact that the Middle-earth RPG is an “absolute passion project” for the team, according to communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling.
“We have a completely mind-blowing ready team to delve into what this universe has to offer,” he said. “And this is, again, an absolute passion project.” He went on to talk about how it will be “deeply immersive” and will offer players “a living world” to explore. “There will be interesting characters, memorable places, and of course a strong narrative.” He also mentioned that the team’s experience with working on the two Kingdom Come: Deliverance games has prepared it to tackle new RPG experiences.
“No matter which world we are working on, you can absolutely trust us and believe that we will build the games in a very specific Warhorse way. We pledged to that; this is our oath,” he said.
“With KCD1 and KCD2, we have a very unique way of how we craft RPGs, how we understand RPGs,” he continued. “I said in one interview with someone at Gamescom that we want to become the new kings of RPGs. I still stand by that. I know it’s a bit ‘haha’ and nosy, but I really stand by that. I think we have our very own formula you guys love, and that’s one of the reasons why the news yesterday cast these huge waves, because people trust that we know what we’re doing.”
