It’s tough to bring something new to the shooter genre. In a space dominated by Call of Duty juggernauts and Battlefield giants, you really need something special to stand out. Wardogs appears to have that spark, and its enormous surge in popularity reflects it. But can it last forever? Maybe not, but Bulkhead seems okay with that, as it confirms that the game has sold over three million copies.
Wardogs has been available on Steam since September 10, 2026, and it’s dominating the Steam Top Sellers chart. Although Counter-Strike 2 continues to hold the top spot, Bulkhead’s shooter sits in a respectable fourth place, behind EA Sports FC 27 and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Celebrating its continued success, Bulkhead discusses the future in its latest blog post.
“Three million copies sold in just over two weeks since launching into early access. We can’t thank you all enough for the support shown for Wardogs and our team,” the studio says. In a more candid admission, the developer adds that “we know this hype won’t last forever, but it doesn’t make it any less rewarding.” It’s a surprisingly honest reflection from the studio. It also shows that Bulkhead understands the challenges ahead and wants to build on the game’s strengths as it moves forward.
New FPS games often experience a huge surge in popularity at launch. One of the most underrated games in the genre, The Finals, followed a similar trajectory. While it hasn’t returned to those initial highs, Embark Studios has sustained interest through consistent updates and a commitment to making its shooter something unique. It looks like Bulkhead plans to take a similar approach.
On that subject, the developer says that “we want to take these brief moments to celebrate but we know as well as you do, early access is a long road, and we see all the feedback. The team is knuckled down and working on Season 2 and beyond.”
Wardogs Season 2 hasn’t revealed much about its plans to keep things fresh just yet. Personally, I’d like to see some attention to handheld gaming PCs, as the game currently remains unplayable on devices running SteamOS or other Linux distributions, such as BazziteOS, my preferred choice.
Until then, Bulkhead still has plenty to prove when it comes to Wardogs’ staying power.
