Welcome back to another roundup of MMOs and MMO-adjacent multiplayer games you’ve never heard of! And true to this news digest’s name, we’ve got a bunch of MMOs this time around. Whether they’ll be of interest to you past that is, of course, up to you.
Illyros
We’ll begin with an in-development mobile MMO known as Illyros, which draws inspiration from the ancient Illyrian people of the Balkan Peninsula. Described as a world of “sibling tribes descended from one bloodline, and one empty throne between them,” this game promises Soulslike combat in an MMO setting, a player economy, and PvP in a single shared world. The game is currently in a stated “very early” build on Android.
Outer Ring
From ancient peoples to sci-fi… stuff, we next are highlighting Outer Ring, a free-to-play MMO from Mexican indie SOREDI Games that’s currently in a beta state. The game lets players join one of five races as they battle for control over the titular region, with PvE content, PvP modes including battle royale, arenas, and dungeons. It might look a bit crunchy, but it’s freely available if you’re curious.
Valdrys
Lastly we head back into fantasy MMO territory with Valdrys, an isometric open world that promises five classes with ten specializations, dungeon delves for up to five players, world bosses to fight, a ranked team arena, and what sounds like a PvP area known as the Bloodgrounds. This one will be buy-to-play with no subscription fee when it enters early access sometime in November, but a playtest is up for joining on Steam if you want to kick its tires beforehand. Just know that “some store page art” was generated with AI, though it doesn’t seem like the game itself was as far as we can tell.
