This is going to sound like one of those games where someone threw random words on a wall and saw which ones stuck, but it’s because of that uniqueness (and its multiplayer bent) that we’re taking a moment to point it out. This is Piroker, an upcoming game of Texas Hold ‘Em poker, roguelike gameplay, and cartoony pirate antics all rolled up into one.
Described by developer Habby.Fun as “a mischievous roguelike autobattler where poker turns into pure combat,” Piroker sees players selecting from one of several pirate-themed characters, each with their own varying starter abilities, then choose from a random relic at the beginning of each hand that powers your deck. Everyone’s hand is the same, but the play strategy comes in relics and chosen heroes, while points are assigned and boosted by treasures and exotic fish, then blows are dealt to the lowest-scoring players.
The game plans to bring over 60 unique pirate characters to unlock, over 100 sea treasures, and over 40 permanent game-breaking underwater pals to find, while play comes in asynchronous multiplayer, online play with friends, or through matchmaking with random players around the world. The game has no release date currently, but it is holding an open playtest on Steam with no specified end date, so maybe take a peek if you’re curious.
