Valve Announces Steam Frame Price, Release Date, and Accessories – Pre-orders Now Open

Valve today opened pre-orders for Steam Frame, its long-awaited standalone VR headset, which finally reveals pricing info, official accessories, and release date.

Steam Frame is set launch at the following prices (inclusive of VAT where applicable):

  • Steam Frame 256GB: 1,059 USD/ 1,529 CAD/ 1,049 EUR/ 889 GBP/ 1,609 AUD/ 4,539 PLN
  • Steam Frame 1TB: 1,299 USD/ 1,859 CAD/ 1,279 EUR/ 1,089 GBP/ 1,969 AUD/ 5,549 PLN

Valve says it’s following a similar approach to how it handled Steam Machine pre-orders, i.e. it’s using a randomized reservation lottery to limit resellers.

While there’s no need to rush — it’s not ‘first come, first served’ — pre-order customers will need to sign up for their desired model to purchase between now and September 17th at 10 AM PT (local time here) if they want to get a crack at the first batch.

Based on the results of that randomization, customers will receive an email later on September 17th indicating they are on the reservation list or waitlist.

If you find yourself on the waitlist, it means your place in line is beyond the number of Steam Frames currently available for reservation; the company says it will notify users when and if they are moved into the reservation queue.

If you are one of the lucky few though, Valve says it expects to send out the first batch of purchase emails on September 18th, meaning the first units should land on customer doors shortly thereafter.

Valve also announced a number of first-party accessories, which will be available at launch at the following prices (inclusive of VAT where applicable):

  • PSU: 29 USD/ 49 CAD/ 39 EUR/ 29 GBP/ 49 AUD/ 139 PLN
  • Ergonomic Accessories Kit (2 controller hand straps, 2 controller hand strap battery doors, 1 headset top strap, 1 extended light blocker): 59 USD/ 89 CAD/ 69 EUR/ 59 GBP/ 99 AUD/ 279 PLN
  • Accessory Replacement Kit (1 face gasket, 1 head cushion, 1 light blocker): 49 USD/ 69 CAD/ 59 EUR/ 49 GBP/ 89 AUD/ 229 PLN

In case you’re just catching up: Steam Frame is a standalone VR headset packing a Snapdragon Series 8 Gen 3 mobile chipset, meaning it can natively play optimized VR games and nearly the entire Steam library of flatscreen games.

That comes in addition to being able to stream anything from a PC via its included Wi-Fi 6E dongle. Check out the articles below to learn more about Valve’s latest and greatest VR headset yet.
