Golf+ Adds Mixed Reality "Immersive Putting" On Quest 3 & 3S

Golf+ introduced a mixed reality feature that lets you use your real putter, but it comes with notable caveats.

Immersive Putting lets Golf+ players use their own real-world golf club and ball, not a controller, to practice putting.

Using the headset’s passthrough cameras, room-mapping, and mixed reality, the game maps a virtual green directly onto your physical surroundings, and then instantly calculates your swing and the speed and trajectory of your shot. The game then carries your real-world shot onto the virtual green, complete with its simulated contours, breaks, grain, and speed.

The feature provides feedback on each stroke, including start line, speed and pace, results, and proximity to the hole, as well as trends which can help players identify patterns in their putting and improve their form over time.

Importantly, there are several requirements that must be met to use this new feature, and it won’t be available to every Golf+ player automatically.

To start, Immersive Putting is only available to Golf+ Pass subscribers. The service costs $49.99 for the first year, $99.99 every year after, and unlocks full access to Golf+’s extensive course library, plus tournaments and events.

Immersive Putting is also currently only available on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, as the experience relies on the headset’s passthrough cameras and depth-sensing capabilities. The older Quest 2 does not support the feature.

You’ll also need (of course) your own real-world putter and ball, plus a few feet of clean and clear space in a reasonably well-lit room.

GOLF+ is available on Quest for $29.99 and comes with three original courses. It is also available as part of Meta’s Horizon+ subscription service. It can be wishlisted on Steam now ahead of its upcoming release on that platform.
