“I bet I could make my own MMORPG,” you roar, flipping a desk and watching it explode into splinters. “This stuff is easy!” If that’s your mindset, then you might be interested in MMOS: MMO Simulator, which isn’t a game creation engine in the vein of something like RPG Maker, but does at least give you a gamified way to see if you could create and manage your own MMORPG world.

“You are the studio, the live team, and the world designer all at once: you build the zones, stock the dungeons, author the loot, set the prices, and open the systems. Then you step back and watch thousands of fully autonomous adventurers move into your world, form parties, grind levels, chase gear, haggle on the auction house, die to your monsters, and if your world is good enough, keep paying the monthly subscriptions that fund everything you do.”

Described by solo developer SwiftSync as “Roller Coaster Tycoon with an MMORPG twist,” MMOS lets players build every aspect of their game’s terrain, populate it with content, manage its in-game economy, and handle live updates such as events and other content additions, all while making sure that word-of-mouth and subscription revenue stays positive. The studio lauds its autonomous players as ones modeled after real MMORPG archetypes, whether they’re level grinders, treasure seekers, or traders.

MMOS is angling for a release sometime in the latter portion of this year on Steam, as well as later plans for a release on mobile platforms. Until then, the game does have a demo that can be played right now, and there’s a gameplay trailer you can watch just below if you happen to be the look before you leap sort.
