Star Wars: Galactic Racer’s Multiplayer Progression Systems Detailed in New Video

New footage for Star Wars: Galactic Racer has made its way online, giving us a look at its multiplayer. Coming courtesy of VideoGamesChronicle, the video includes gameplay from a pre-release preview build of the fast-paced racing game and showcases a mix of different vehicle types and race courses. Check it out below.

It is worth noting that, according to the video’s narrator, the gameplay footage is largely made up of B-roll provided by developer Fuse Games. Aside from that, however, there are plenty of details to be gleaned, like how the structure of multiplayer races is similar to short-term single-player progression.

The general idea revolves around the player building up their personal race craft until the grand finale of the multiplayer matches, where all of the improvements made by the player will start paying off. To do this, players will have to win races, or at least come as close to winning as possible, which will give them the ability to make improvements to their crafts.

While this system offers some obvious advantages to players that were already winning in the earlier rounds, the narrator has noted that there is still the chance for a racer with few upgrades to pull off an upset victory in the grand finale. “It’s not like in a Mario Kart situation where the leaderboard gets so stacked that there’s realistically or literally no way that you can come back because of the point distribution.”

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is expected to attract a more casual audience thanks to its use of the Star Wars IP, which the video calls a good thing when taking into account how its multiplayer progression systems work.

When it comes to customization, players will be given plenty of options. Things start off with the player being offered a character from the single-player campaign. This doesn’t really have any impact on the races themselves, and the choices just switch up what kinds of voice lines your characters will say. Vehicle customization is the more important factor, and while upgrades will come over the course of many races, players will be able to get into the weeds of the visual design of their craft as well.

Interestingly, Star Wars: Galactic Racer also features a betting system where players can predict and gamble on their own performance in an upcoming race. Depending on their performance over the course of the race, rewards can be greater or worse. Players can also target their opponents to get a cut of their bonus winnings.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and is set for release on October 6th. Recently, Fuse Games released a trailer showcasing the pros and cons of Landspeeders. While noted as being neither the fastest nor the best-handling vehicle in the game, the Landspeeder is considered to have great cornering capabilities thanks to its ability to maintain its speed. The vehicle’s durability is also said to be high, which will definitely help against trigger-happy opponents.
