After a crowded week that saw the release of Beast of Reincarnation, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and Big Walk, this week has been mercifully quiet for new games. (Thank God for that, because my backlog is getting out of control.) But in the modern gaming landscape, there’s never truly a slow week — especially on Steam.

This week’s PC release calendar is filled with throwbacks, as we’ve gotten indie twists on beloved games like Star Fox 64 and GoldenEye 007. Those come alongside a promising new shooter, and a DLC for one of my personal favorite games of 2025. Here are some of the most notable newly released Steam games that you can check out this weekend.

Duskfade

Duskfade kicks off a week full of retro indies in style. The 3D action game follows the heroic Zirian on a quest to save his sister. His weapon? A sword that looks a lot like Sora’s Keyblade. Yes, Duskfade is a bit of a throwback to PS2 games like Kingdom Hearts, both in its hack-and-slash battles and fantasy storytelling. Considering that Sony isn’t all too interested in making this flavor of action-platformer anymore, Duskfade might be your best option if you’re looking to return to an era when Jak and Daxter reigned supreme.

Agent 64: Spies Never Die

If you’re nostalgic for the days of Nintendo 64 first-person shooters, get ready for a blast from the past. Agent 64: Spies Never Die is a polygon-perfect retro throwback that pays its respects to genre greats like GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark. Best of all, it includes a multiplayer mode with split-screen support, just like the good old days. You have to really be hungry for a game that looks and feels like it stepped out of 1997 to appreciate this one. If that’s exactly what you want, Agent 64 will be right up your alley.

Wild Blue Skies

Nintendo Switch 2 owners got a solid Star Fox 64 remake this summer, and now PC players have one of their own… sort of. Wild Blue Skies is an indie homage to the Nintendo 64 classic, and one that clearly was made by a team that didn’t expect Nintendo to revisit Star Fox anytime soon. It almost plays like a Star Fox 64 remake, with quipping animal pilots and levels that are very explicitly riffing on the ones in that game. It can come off feeling like “legally distinct Star Fox” as a result, but if you don’t own a Switch 2 and have been itching to return to the series, it will check the right boxes.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam

That’s a lot of options for retro enthusiasts, but how about players who enjoy something more modern? Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is your best bet this week. The first-person shooter takes players to the Vietnam War — not exactly a conflict that most war games are eager to draw on. Though the setting is bound to raise a few eyebrows, developer Expression Games is committed to delivering a complex shooter with 50v50 battles. gamexplore’s Ford James walked away impressed with what he played back in April, so it’s bound to find its audience in hardcore shooter fans.

Mafia: The Old Country — Man of Honor

If you slept on Mafia: The Old Country last year due to its middling reviews, now is the time to rectify that. The action-adventure game’s new Man of Honor DLC is a good excuse to dive in considering that it links the prequel to the mainline series by introducing a young Ennio Salieri to the mix. Outside of that story chapter, the new update brings some welcome changes to the game’s open-world. That addresses a common criticism, as fans wanted more reasons to explore Sicily when the game first launched. I hope that’s enough to give The Old Country its due, because it still has some of the strongest writing I’ve seen in a modern AAA video game.
