Here I am, ostensibly a manly man with the chest hair to prove it, covering a game called Blubbi featuring grinning slimes who look like something Hello Kitty dreams about at night. If you grew up in the virtual pet era — shout out to my neglected and probably desiccated Tamagotchis — then you’ll be at home here as you adopt a happy bubble of sentient goo and then take care of it better than you do your actual pets and/or families.
Oh, and this plays itself, just in case you’re horrible at games: “Blubbi is a cute, relaxing, online social pet creature-collecting and caring game, made by a solo dev (me!). It’s generally a second monitor game. You glance at it, get some drops from various POIs, check-in on timers, and leave it running to progress.”
Blubbi, a title that takes a month off my life every time I have to type it, encourages players to trade their pets, open up free gacha chests, and take part in server-wide events. Blubbi. It’s what’s happening, people. Well, some day it’s happening. It’s not out yet. So be patient. But let’s throw the entire weight of the Massively OP community behind this to propel it to the top of Steam charts when it does release, just to befuddle the corporations.
