A-hoo-wee da-hoo-wee, ol’ clickety-clack’s a’echoing back, but that’s not the sound of an old bluesy standard; it’s the arrival of EverRail, the survival sandbox by Aesir Interactive that sets players on a snowy train as it makes its way into early access today.

“In EverRail, humanity’s last refuge is a massive train that only survives in motion,” Aesir says. “Every stop to scavenge, every expedition into the frozen wilderness, drains the batteries that keep it alive. The survivors you rescue along the way are more than cargo: they are your lives, and when the last one is gone, the journey ends. Gather supplies, expand your rolling fortress and get back before the power dies, alone or with up to four players in co-op.”

For those who haven’t been following along since our reporting this past February, EverRail sees players balancing the need to stop and gather resources with the need to keep the battery-powered sanctuary train moving. Aesir heralds multiple updates made in its early access launch based on prior playtester feedback, such as the option to play in first and third-person view, expanded survival systems, new combat and exploration gameplay, and quality-of-life updates.

As for the current build, that will let players build a train that can stretch as long as 1,000 wagons and hit speeds of 350 kilometers an hour, all while battling hostile robots, scavenging for resources, and building their choo-choo into a mobile fortress across a procedurally generated world. Future updates further promise deeper progression, more challenges, and new survival systems. Early access buy-in is $15 but the game is on a 10% discount on Steam until Monday, August 3rd.
