It’s been a long time since we’ve had cause to write about Splatoon, particularly as its last game, the team vs. team shooter Splatoon 3, has been in maintenance mode since 2024. That hasn’t meant the end of the series, however, as Nintendo revealed the arrival of Splatoon Raiders last year, though details were rather sparse at the time.
Fast-forward to about a year later and we’ve got significantly more information about the game by way of a video presentation and the title’s official site, which confirms some important points including a launch date of Thursday, July 23rd, for Nintendo Switch 2, as well as a primarily single-player focus as we had suspected, though up to three other players can join in co-op play either through local wireless or online if they’re subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, and players can even call for online help mid-mission.
As for the game itself, players are cast as a mechanic and pilot for the pop band Deep Cut, who have crash landed on the chain of Spirhalite Islands. In order to get back home, players are tasked with finding treasure, taking out Salmonids, and combining found weapons, equippable gadgets, and one of three different tanks to create a preferred playstyle.
