Many times when we’re introduced to some new and upcoming games, we remark about how some of them try to swirl together disparate-sounding genres into one. That is most definitely true about Monster Fantasy, an in-development multiplayer RPG from the 20-person Chinese team at Jotoyo that merges giant monster battles, cozy life sim gaming, and creature capturing all into one melange.
“As an amnesiac hero in the Kingdom of Eldoras, you can follow the classic path of an adventurer—hunting monsters to earn materials and rewards, or spend your days fishing, chopping wood, mining, cooking, crafting your own equipment, and enjoying a variety of life-sim activities. Play freely, your way!”
The studio calls this RPG a game of two halves that ultimately aims to “become a bridge that brings friends and family together.” Those who like action RPG combat can take on around 50 different giant monsters by swapping to one of four classes (Warrior, Mage, Archer, and Swordsman) as well as capture them to use in battle or as transport, while pastoral players can look forward to lots of village life as they gather, produce homes, and grow a town. In both cases, players can enjoy the game solo or in multiplayer and progress the story as they see fit.
There are some other important details that we should note: A release date isn’t tied down yet, the game is planning to launch a Kickstarter drive on Wednesday, July 15th, to fund development, and its Steam page notes that “in-game chat is dynamically generated using LLM and text-to-speech technology” in order to create characters that “respond uniquely to [players’] choices and playstyle.” Assuming those aren’t hard stops for you, the game can be wishlisted on Steam and a gameplay trailer awaits below.
