Crimson Desert's new patch lets you recruit even more pet companions

Crimson Desert's new patch lets you recruit even more pet companions
SHARE

Crimson Desert has a lot going on, including the ability to recruit animal buddies. The game’s latest update, patch 1.11, has doubled down on being a pet sim: After completing certain challenges, players will now be able to register up to 100 pets, with up to 50 allowed in camp at a time. That’s a lot of little guys. The update also gives baby wyverns a dedicated map icon.

Some players felt the previous pet limit of 30 was a bit too restrictive, especially after the game’s 1.09 update added 30 new pet types, including hedgehogs, rabbits, chipmunks, and more. Beyond just being cute, your animals can follow you into combat and loot defeated enemies.

As for other changes in the 1.11 update, shopkeepers will begin collecting and reselling lost loot, the pinball minigame has been improved and had its difficulty lowered, localization errors have been fixed, certain characters can now equip the mining drill and chainsaw, and more.

Crimson Desert is an open-world RPG that launched earlier this year to solid reviews thanks to its deep combat and scope, but was criticized for issues like bad inventory management, cumbersome controls, and fast travel woes. Thankfully, many of these problems have since been at least partially addressed via a nonstop assault of patches.

There are now more difficulty settings, the ability to rematch any of the game’s bosses, and pinball alongside too many additions to count. The game’s controversial AI art assets have thankfully been removed after the studio cited the new industry default excuse of “oopsie, we forgot to remove the slop before shipping the game,” a framing that doesn’t address the fact that they were using it in the first place. Pearl Abyss is even looking into “fixing” the game’s lackluster story.

Regardless of how this pans out, the team confirmed yesterday that Crimson Desert has sold an impressive 6 million copies, suggesting the studio will support their hit for some time to come. They recently announced that full-blown DLC is on the way as well.
