Overwatch's next hero is Shion, a damage-class character with Hashimoto ties

The next hero coming to Overwatch is Shion, a Hashimoto leader working with Vendetta for Talon. Blizzard Entertainment made the announcement in a new trailer showing off Shion in a fight against Sojourn, and they’re launching in Overwatch season 3 on June 16.

Shion is a new Damage-class character with ties to the game’s Hashimoto clan, the rivals of the Shimada clan. Like her Hashimoto counterparts, the dual-wielding hero wears an oni mask. She’s also barely human, rides a snazzy motorcycle, and has a blade she pulls out for close-range combat. We’ll have to wait and see whether that’s just a juiced-up melee attack like Genji has or a different part of her kit, though. The End of the Line trailer was mostly just a cinematic set-up for Shion’s role in the Overwatch universe.

Shion is Overwatch‘s 52nd hero and the seventh released in 2026, part of Blizzard’s relaunch promise to release one new hero every season. There’ll be three more heroes this year as part of the game’s rebranding and Overwatch‘s 10th anniversary, and season 3 will also include a new map set in Japan, a tie-in with Shion’s story and the first new map for non-Stadium modes since Overwatch‘s relaunch.

Shion follows the recent release of Sierra, another Damage-class hero, as part of season 2, and the addition of five new heroes in season 1. Unlike in Sierra’s reveal trailer, though, Shion didn’t get completely wiped out by her enemies.

Blizzard relaunched Overwatch in February, dropping the 2 from the game’s title and adding five new heroes to the roster: Domina (Tank), Anran (Damage), Emre (Damage), Jetpack Cat (Support), and Mizuki (Support, and another Hashimoto member). Blizzard plans to add a total of 10 new heroes to the game in 2026.
