Back during 2024’s Game Awards showcase, one of the titles that were announced was Thick as Thieves, a multiplayer PvPvE title that cast players as… well, as thieves in a 1910’s-styled metropolis with the objective of getting to some goods and absconding with it first. It basically looked like Thief but with a PvP bent.

Well, since that reveal, a few things have changed: For one, the game has officially made its release this week, and the game also announced a change in gameplay tack this past April, shifting away from PvPvE to a singleplayer and two-player co-op game instead.

“[A]s development progressed and the world of Kilcairn has come to life, we found that we were having more fun with solo and co-op play,” the announcement explained. “This sharpened focus has allowed us to double down on what makes Thick as Thieves truly special – dynamic stealth gameplay.”

The gameplay loop itself is still just the same as before, as players use abilities, gadgets, and some good old-fashioned observation to pilfer goodies and get away untouched, all while climbing difficulty levels that change security layouts and guard patrols. And perhaps best of all, it’s just five dollarbux.

So far user reviews on Steam are mostly positive as players remark on the cheap-as-chips price tag and fun gameplay, though others bring up complaints such as a timer on levels and a couple of abilities that can trivialize stealth to a degree. The game has otherwise mapped out its next two updates to address graphics options, keybinds, and mouse sensitivity, among other things.
