Following its worldwide launch on April 17th, Capcom’s Pragmata has sold more than one million units. It’s available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, although the latter is yet to launch in Japan and other parts of Asia until April 24th.

The publisher credited the “range of marketing initiatives, beginning with the early release of a playable demo” for the game’s success. That includes broadening “the title’s availability by adding support for Nintendo Switch 2 at an early stage.”

As a new IP that retails for $60, it arrives off the back of an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, where 97 percent of the currently 4,296 user reviews recommend the game. In terms of peak concurrent users, it actually hit a new record this weekend at 68,687, surpassing Resident Evil 3 Remake.

Overall, it’s good news considering Pragmata was announced in 2020 and suffered multiple delays. Director Cho Yonghee would later reveal that it was due to the amount of trial and error the team faced in implementing the hacking mechanic. “There was so much trial and error and back and forth just to see what could land and what works best.”

“Having the two mechanics, Diana’s hacking and Hugh’s shooting, has been one of the causes for us to put more time into that game. We took our time to balance it all out,” said producer Naoto Oyama.

That time and effort clearly paid off, as Pragmata currently has an 86 Metascore based on 96 critical reviews. You can read our review here – we gave it a nine out of ten, praising the visuals, storytelling, and combat while criticizing the bland nature of Hugh as a protagonist.

Where it goes from here and whether Capcom greenlights a sequel or DLC remains to be seen, so stay tuned.
