Back in November, Black Eye Games – the studio behind the sunsetted PvP MMORPG Gloria Victis – returned to the genre, telling Discord fans that it had actually secured a new publisher and that it was preparing to revive and relaunch the game. Big “a surprise, but a welcome one” energy, especially since the game had run for a decade before Black Eye finally threw in the towel in 2023 thanks to insufficient funds and players.
Well, today we’re actually finding out who the mystery publisher is, and it’s… Gamigo.
“[G]amigo is excited to announce the upcoming relaunch of the medieval open-world MMORPG Gloria Victis. Having secured the publishing rights to the title, gamigo will bring the game back as a free-to-play experience for players worldwide. Those who are excited to resume their journeys in Gloria Victis can wishlist the game now on Steam. After a decade of live service, Gloria Victis has built a passionate community over the years, and gamigo is excited to bring this unique PvP-focused MMORPG back and open its gates to even more players worldwide.”
“We’re staying true to what matters most: a skill-based, non–pay-to-win experience,” Gamigo and Black Eye write on Steam. “At the same time, the game will transition to a free-to-play model and evolve based on your feedback. We’re not just bringing it back – we’re building it stronger.”
The companies appear to be using the OG Steam page for the game, though it’s not exactly clear which version of the game will actually launch. The PR chiefly recaps the game’s territory system, PvP, and economy.
Gamigo, of course, is well known in the MMORPG genre; it was once home to several dozen MMOs it had rescued and currently owns KingsIsle (Wizard101) and the Trion MMOs (RIFT, Trove). Post-COVID, it also had a failed run publishing Fractured and sunsetted most of its MMO stable, including ArcheAge. But in recent years, it’s shown a spark of life, updating RIFT and licensing games like Defiance. Either way, fans of GV will be happy to have it back.
