We’ve probably all that the dream of being able to develop the MMORPG of our dreams, a dream that is hampered by little things like available time, expertise, and resources. However, one French developer didn’t take these restrictions as excuses but rather a challenge, resulting in an early access MMO called Faehnor Online.
“This game was born from an unreasonable idea: creating a homemade MMORPG, without a big studio or a real budget — just stubborn passion and the desire to offer an adventure that truly feels handcrafted,” the game’s Steam page says. “In this open world, exploration isn’t guided by an omnipresent mini‑map or a magic navigation system. Study paper maps and learn to find your way like a real adventurer. Get lost, find your way, and set out to conquer a world that will never take you by the hand.”
The project began in 2019 and has been solo-created since 2022. This culminated in Faehnor Online’s Steam early access release earlier this month. The game’s currently free-to-play with a low but active population.
