Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 Has “Proven a Challenge,” Paused for “A Couple of Months Now” – Rumor

After a long delay in releasing a port of Borderlands 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2, rumors suggest that Gearbox and Take-Two might be reevaluating the viability of bringing their latest offering to the new console. The latter confirmed that development had paused on the port and with performance issues and criticism already being a focal point on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, it’s quite understandable.

Although there was speculation about a February 2026 release, leaker NateTheHate revealed on ResetEra that the Switch 2 version had been “paused for a couple of months now. It’s proven to be a challenge and has likely crossed over into the realm of investment/time needed to port it well being too high in comparison to sales potential.” Take-Two previously announced that launch sales were “a little softer” than it would have liked, even though it reaffirmed Gearbox’s support for the title.

It’s rather unfortunate that Switch 2 players may not get to experience what, in our opinion, was a solid addition to a franchise that has managed to stay relevant over the years with its unique brand of satirical humor and excellent mechanics backing a riveting story. However, it does make sense to hold off on a port that may not live up to the high expectations of its players.

Time will tell if Borderlands 4 can manage to find its way to the Switch 2, but for now, it does seem like a bleak prospect. On the bright side, other platforms can look forward to plenty of free updates and paid content, including the first story expansion, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned.
