Meta’s Quest Runtime Optimizer for Unity identifies efficiency bottlenecks and provides actionable ideas for fixing them, serving to builders maximize body charges.

Whereas graphics programmers and veteran sport builders already use RenderDoc and Meta’s ovrgpuprofiler command line software to establish efficiency points, these instruments are comparatively advanced for builders new to working with real-time 3D graphics rendering, and haven’t got an understanding of engine editor settings and constructions.

Meta says its new Quest Runtime Optimizer is “a extra intuitive and user-friendly” various. It is a UI window inside Unity that gives “actionable insights” for particularly how builders can mitigate the issues it identifies.

Quest Runtime Optimizer is not meant to interchange RenderDoc or ovrgpuprofiler, Meta says. But it surely’s designed to be “the start line of your efficiency flows, saving you hours of handbook profiling”.

The software affords three varieties of study: Bottleneck Evaluation, What If? Evaluation, and, on Home windows and Linux particularly, an non-obligatory ‘Materials/Shader Evaluation’ function.

The Bottleneck Evaluation also can rank entities (the mix of meshes, textures, and supplies) by efficiency price, whereas What If? Evaluation performs an “automated A/B experiment” by disabling sport objects in your digital camera’s view one after the other and measuring the affect on the GPU.

Meta Quest Runtime Optimizer is on the market free of charge on the Unity Asset Retailer.

It requires a Quest headset with Horizon OS v78 or above and Unity 2022.3 or above.
