Capcom is taking Mega Man out of cold storage, where he’s been quietly resting for nearly a decade now. Mega Man: Dual Override is coming in 2027, Capcom announced Thursday at The Game Awards. It’s the first new mainline Mega Man game since 2018’s Mega Man 11.
Details are scant, but a brief trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override confirmed one important thing: The next game will be a classic 2D side-scrolling action-platformer in the vein of Mega Man games of yore. According to the trailer description fo Mega Man: Dual Override, “Mega Man returns in 2027 with a brand-new entry in the classic action platforming series! Override challenges and blast down legions of robots while springboarding across a new array of futuristic frontiers!” So yeah, Mega Man’s gonna do some Mega Man Stuff.
One interesting bit revealed during the trailer for Dual Override is a slight change to Mega Man’s exoskeleton. While Mega Man overlooks the city, we see panels on his armor expand as he cools his interior. Surely that means something. But we sure don’t see much outside of Mega Man himself and some familiar enemies — like Mets and Pipis — and we certainly don’t see Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, or any Robot Masters. Maybe at next year’s The Game Awards.
Mega Man: Dual Override is coming in 2027 — Mega Man’s 40th anniversary — Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
