The first major patch for Bungie’s Marathon went live earlier this week, and while generally praised for its changes, one garnered seemingly mixed reactions: The increased range that players would hear opponents’ gunfire. Apparently, it’s a little too high, and in a game like this, where the PvE puts up a pretty strong fight, being third-partied by other players who are then third-partied by themselves made things too chaotic.

Bungie has heard feedback on this and recognizes that the change was “an overcorrection.” It “will pull things back in a way that maintains your ability to hear each other’s actions, but not at a distance that feels excessive.” You can expect these changes in a future update; this week, the stack sizes for ammo, salvage, and grenades in the Vault will increase to help with space. A preview image shows that Volt ammo, healing items, and shields will be able to stack up to 30 going forward.

The developer is also working on long-term improvements for those with high-end PCs, though it emphasized that this wouldn’t be available “all at once.” It also didn’t confirm what’s coming first, so stay tuned for more updates on the same.

Marathon is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC – check out our review here, where we came away pleasantly surprised by its gunplay and overall gameplay loop (though it’s certainly not for everyone). There’s still a lot to look forward to, especially the end-game zone, Cryo Archive, which is dropping as part of Season 1. Head here for a roadmap of what’s to come.
