Halo Studios’ Former Art Director Alleges Harassment Campaigns, Retaliation From Leadership

After previously hinting at issues with the leadership at Halo Studios, former art director Glenn Israel—having previously worked on Halo Infinite—has accused the company’s senior staff of “numerous unethical and/or unlawful acts”. In a lengthy post on LinkedIn, Israel has alleged that the studio’s leadership has partaken in, among other things, “blacklisting, rampant favoritism/cronyism, and multiple harassment campaigns designed to provoke the constructive discharge of ‘unwanted’ employees otherwise in good standing.

Israel has also noted that several complaints had already been documented with the HR department at Microsoft in June 2025. This, in turn, led to a senior Global Employee Relations representative threatening retaliation and promising to “quash any further investigation.” Senior Halo Studios staff have also been accused of having engaged in harassment over the course of four days that would lead to Israel being let go from the company in July 2025.

He has also alleged that Microsoft has been doing its best to suppress reports of any issues facing Halo Studios, including complaints escalated to Microsoft’s Workplace Investigation Team, being reported “closed” by the same Global Employee Relations representative. In August 2025, Israel’s team was also seemingly reassigned from their unannounced project to work on Halo: Campaign Evolved thanks to the upcoming game’s “catastrophic management”. This, in turn, also led to Israel’s role being deemed “redundant,” which the art director has called “a plainly retaliatory act.”

In a second post, Israel has also noted being suspicious of Microsoft making use of its mass lay-offs to also get rid of employees who have previously filed proper and effective complaints. Investigation teams under the HR department are also noted as being compartmentalized to “obfuscate responsibility and create plausible deniability.”

“I know that our industry is in truly dire straits now, but as a matter of public interest I cannot in good conscience recommend seeking employment at this organization or continuing there if you have *any other option*,” wrote Israel at the end of his post. “Your effort and expertise are not respected. You are not fairly compensated. If you refuse to engage in political gamesmanship, your career will stall; if you object, you will be forced out. I have the evidence – you are not safe.”

Israel had announced his departure from Halo Studios through another LinkedIn post back in October 2025, where he noted that he couldn’t reveal too many details about his time at the company until it was “absolutely safe to do so.”

Halo Studios’ facing issues with its leadership hasn’t been a secret over the last few years, and especially since the studio was known as 343 Industries and was working on Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo 5: Guardians. The studio has also faced lay-offs, with reports indicating that tensions were already high at the time.

“I’m personally super pissed that Phil’s email to us bragged about how this was the most profitable year ever for Xbox in the same breath as pulling the lever,” said one Halo Studios employee at the time, referring to the internal emails that had been sent out to developers under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella leading up to the lay-offs. “I wasn’t sure what part of that I was supposed to be proud about.”
